Birthday Balloon

Just a quick post today, life has been a bit stressful lately and lots of stuff on the go!  I did force myself to take some time to relax and craft yesterday, and just had to play along with this week's MFT sketch.  I'm no a roll, 4 for 4!

I've used my very first MFT stamp from long, long ago :)  This Pure Innocence girl is called 'My Balloon'.  I've paired her up with a sentiment from MFT's More Essential Sentiments.  The photos are a bit dark, sorry!  Bad lighting at this time of year here.  One of these days I'll get a light box :)

Challenges:
Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes
Party Time Tuesdays - Anything Goes

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Remember to make someone smile today :)

Paper Piecing with Paper Sundaes

This week at Paper Sundaes, Shana and I have set the challenge as Paper Piecing, since our sponsor is MFT, and their stamps work so perfectly for this technique.  I sure wish I could play along for a chance to win, since this week's winner will recieve a $25 gift certificate to MFT!  We also have a special guest designer this week, so you really need to stop by Paper Sundaes and take a look!

This cutie is a Pure Innocence from MFT called 'Love You With All My Heart'.  The sentiment is from MFT's 'More Essential Sentiments', I just inked up the first word from their 'Love you, love me' sentiment.  The tag is also from MFT, their Die-namics Dog Tag.  I just love this paper from last year's Valentine's line from We R Memory Keepers.  I'm so sad that it's almost gone now!

The layout is from the current MFT sketch challenge.  I'm doing well so far this year, 3 for 3!  Only 49 more to go :)  I've kept it quite clean and simple, and just rotated it 180°.

Copic colours:
skin- E000, 00, 21, 11, 31, BV000
hair - Y32, 23, 26
Shoes and dress shading - G40, 21

Challenges -
Creatalicious Challenge - Love
Let's Ink It Up - Anything Goes
Corrosive Challenge - I heart You
Sentimental Sundays - Die Cuts
Paper Play - Ribbon every which way

I hope you can come and join us in our challenge this week at Paper Sundaes!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hugs,

A winter birthday

If you are looking for my Paper Sundaes Blog Hop post, click HERE
It couldn't be simpler to enter the challenge this week too, since it is 'Your Favorite Past Challenge', and I'll give you a hint... one week was 'Anything Goes' ;)

Brr, winter is definitely here!  I guess it couldn't last forever, but I sure am hoping for an early spring!  Hopefully the cold will mean a lot of time at home this weekend to craft!  I always get the urge to move to Australia at this time of year.  It is especially challenging when it comes to photographing stuff, there's just so little sunlight!  So my apologies for the dark photos, I took at least 30 shots with different lighting trying to get closer to real life colours.

I am still trying to use my new stamps from the latest Magnolia collection.  This cutie is Tilda with Hellebores.  The sentiment is from an MFT set called 'More Essential Sentiments'.  The flower die cut is Magnolia's Doily Flower Doohickey, and the leaf is a die cut from the MFT Prima Donna Petals set.  The small white rose is from Wild Orchid.  I've also used my stickles to add a touch of glitter to her dress and flowers, as you can see in the close-up.

I found this fabric in the discount bin at our local fabric store last summer but had yet to cut it up, so the TOMIC challenge provided the perfect excuse to dig it out and use it.

challenges:
ABC Challenge - H is for Happy Birthday
Stampin' For the Weekend - Out with the old (old lace that's been in my stash for years!)

Now I am off to the pool to watch my kids at practice and pretend that I am on a tropical beach somewhere!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!

For your amusement

Maybe you remember my post from last week when I was saying that at least it wasn't -30?  Mother Nature is laughing at me right now.

Yup, -30 at midnight, but if you look closer, you'll see that 'Feels Like -41' bit... nice!  And it's supposed to drop another 7 degrees by morning, brrr!!!  I'm wearing a scarf and toque around the house tonight!

And in honour of the weather, I am going to re-run my previous 'You know you're Canadian if...'

Oh, I had a question about what is a toque... it is 'a small, brimless, close-fitting hat'.

Paper Sundaes 2nd Birthday Blog Hop!

I am so excited that today is the day we are celebrating Paper Sundaes Challenge Blog's 2nd Birthday!  It has been such a fun 2 years and I am really looking forward to all of our challenges and amazing sponsors that we have in the works for 2012!  We have several wonderful sponsors for our blog hop, so be sure to hop along and leave a comment on each of the stops along the way and collect your secret word from each blog!  Keep your eyes open, because several of the girls have candy to give away, too!

I just have a quick card tonight to celebrate my daughter's new A time from her meet yesterday!  I thought this adorable All Star A La Mode from MFT would be perfect for the occasion.  The papers are from a My Mind's Eye Lime Twist 6x6 paper pad, I just love the colours in it!

Our challenge this week to go with our hop is to use your favorite past Paper Sundaes challenge.  I chose to use our Challenge #83, a Sundae Bar!  Our toppings that week were Green, twine, buttons and banners.  I've used the first three :)

Now I have to get up in less than four hours, so I am going to schedule this and get to bed!  But before I do, I need to leave you with your secret word!

The

Now from here you need to go visit Jenny, I know she will have something beautiful for you to see!  Thanks so much for joining us on our hop!

Challenges for this card:
Dream Valley - Anything Goes
Let's Ink It Up - Anything Goes
Simply Create Too - Layers, layers & more layers
Crafts & Me - Anything Goes

Hugs,
     Christine

Check It Out

Brr, winter has arrived here overnight and it is quite chilly this morning!  We've been very spoiled this year with temperatures at or above freezing, when often we are getting down to -30C in January (and sometimes -40C, even -45C when it's really bad!), so I can't complain, though!  But the cold winds of winter make me long for spring, and this cutie definitely warms me up :)

I found this new to me Jillybean Soup paper on a recent foray to a local scrapbook store.  There was barely anything new; I can't wait for the CHAreleases!  Though it will take at least a month for those products to make their way to Canada.

It's not very often that I use a stamp twice in as many months, but I just love this adorable MFT Chrysanthemum Pure Innocence!  I wasn't happy with how the flower turned out last time though, so I went searching on the 'net to see how others had coloured it.  I should have known to check one of my favourite blogs I follow... Michele Boyer had done this same image, and her flower was gorgeous! (As was the whole thing!)  I did my best imitation of her colouring on my flower :)  Leaving those bits of white really added the dimension I was missing the first time!

This layout was the first MFT sketch challenge for 2012.  Hopefully I can manage to play along a lot more often this year!

Challenges:
Crafts & Me - Anything Goes
Top Tip Tuesday - Anything Goes

Time for me to drop kiddo #1 off at school, then home to clean the house.  Oh goody!  :)  I hope you have more excitement planned for your day than I do for mine :)

Thanks so much for coming to visit my blog!

Hugs,
     Christine

Christmas in January

Oh, I was so pitifully behind on my Christmas cards this year, that I am already working on next year's!  I had coloured this adorable Something For You Tilda just before Christmas but simply ran out of time to do anything with her.  Now I have one card done, lots to go :)  I might have to try a different colour next time though... as much as I love red, I've been using it a bit too much lately :)

My apologies for the dark photos.  I wanted to take these during daylight yesterday, but was hit with a migraine and didn't get them done until after dark, which sure comes early here!

I've kept this card relatively flat for mailing.  Those are the ones I'll need first, after all :)  The flowers are a MFT die-namic, Flower & Leaf Trio.  I've also added a bit of dazzling diamonds around Tilda as well as the matching sentiment for a touch of sparkle.  The sentiment is from CC Designs 'Merry & Bright' sentiment set.

challenges:
Christmas Challenges - sketch + die cuts or punches (used both!)
Magnolia Down Under - Anything Goes
Just Magnolia - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp - Something New (New stamp)
Simply Magnolia - Celebrate (Christmas lol)

Now I need to run a munchkin to school!  Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Hugs,
     Christine

Paper Sundaes Challenge Time!

This week at Paper Sundaes I got to choose the challenge, so I picked 'Saturated Colours'.  It seemed very appropriate, since our sponsor is Saturated Canary!  Krista's digis are so cute, and very well suited to bold colours.  Krista generously gave each of our DT a digi to play with, and I chose this adorable Queen of Hearts.

I found this cute new paper by Echo Park for Valentine's Day, and used some black lace and Wild Orchid flowers from my stash.  The butterfly is cut with an MFT die-namic die, as are the leaves.

I've used my favorite red combo, R35, 37, 39, 59.  This combo is definitely a 'saturated' shade of red!

Challenges:
Sketch and Stash - sketch layout plus stash (my black lace which has been hanging around my stash for a few years)
Simon Says Stamp - New Something (new papers)
Top Tip Tuesday - Anything Goes
The Pink Elephant - Anything Goes
Papertake Weekly - Anything Goes

Are you ready to move onto Valentine's too?  The sooner we get to Valentine's, the sooner we get to Easter, which means spring!  :)
Hugs,
     Christine

Aim High

I couldn't resist inking up this new (to me) MFT Pure Innocence 'Aim High' girl!  It was time for a summery image again after all that Christmas!  I missed a bunch of the MFT sketches during the year, and decided to jump back and use one of the ones from the fall that I had missed, sketch #43.

Unfortunately, this far north, there is really no good time of day to take photos.  This cardstock actually has a touch of BG in it, not that you can tell from this, probably!  I can't wait for spring, just so we can have some real sunlight!

These papers are from an older My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pack, 'Lime Twist'.  I've used the small rectangular flag from my MFT Mini Pennant Die and popped them up a bit as well as the kite with my new Zots that Santa brought.  Hopefully you can see it in the close-up!

I've airbrushed on the grass (YG 01, 23, 25) and sky (BG 70 & 72 to match that BG cardstock), and added a bit of tufts to the grass with my markers after.  I was getting a bit of splatter with my airbrush, not sure why!  I am getting close to the bottom of my air can, maybe that's it.  I think dh will buy me an air compressor for my birthday, I already have one picked out!  :)  Then I can airbrush to my heart's content.

Just a few more days of Christmas break for my kids, not that they really get a break when their days start at 5 AM and go until mid afternoon with a training camp!  Looking forward to getting back to our normal routine.  Anyone else's kids still on break?

challenges:
All That Scraps - Anything Goes
Top Tip Tuesdays - Anything Goes
Papertake Weekly - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp - New Something (New stamp, new die)
The Pink Elephant - Anything Goes

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I appreciate all of your visits and comments!

Hugs,
     Christine

Ringing in the New Year

Happy New Year!

Today I am starting the year out right, by creating!  :)  Our new challenge at Paper Sundaes is 'Out With the Old, In With the New'.  We'd like you to use both something old, and something new on your creation, and play along with us for the chance to win!

For my card today, I've used my new MFT Pure Innocence Chrysanthemum, with some My Mind's Eye papers that have been in my stash for a few months, a sentiment from MFT's More Essential Sentiments, and MFT's File tab (the very first of their file tabs that I purchased a while back).  The layout is from MFT's sketch #52.

I've kept this one really clean and simple, which seems to be a trend with me lately.  I actually had a die cut flower ready to go on it and decided I preferred it without!  :)

Challenges:
Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes
Charisma Cardz - Anything Goes
Party Time Tuesdays - Anything Goes
Stampin' For the Weekend - Anything Goes
Sentimental Sundays - Anything Goes
Pile It On - Anything Goes
4 Crafty Chicks - Something New (MFT Pure Innocence Chrysanthemum)
Creative Inspirations Paint - Something New (MFT Pure Innocence Chrysanthemum)

Now I am going to get this scheduled and then head to bed...

I hope all of you have a wonderful 2012 filled with lots of love and mojo!  :)

Hugs,
     Christine
